Queen of the night

Round midnight, Robert reminded me that the night-blooming cereus should be out. They were, their sweet scent lying thick on the lawn.

This one, with its luminous center, is for Lou.

The flower is real, but the lighting isn't. I couldn't quite get a great pic outdoors -- no tripod -- so i took the blossom inside, mounted it in an ikebana frog, put the frog on a magenta lacquer tray Ben and Ken gave us for Key West, put the tray on the kitchen table, turned on the soffit lights and side-lit the base of the blossom with a flashlight.

A little bit like telling how sausage is made, I know; but at least the end product is tasty.

And as for lucky: Lucky me, for knowing Lou.
