Credit where it's due
Arnold put the new plaque up today.
When I pulled it out of the package over the weekend, it took him a few moments, thinking about how it ought to be mounted, before he took a good look at it and recognized himself on the last line.
"When I did that church in Albany [Georgia, the civil rights museum there], they put a brick in front with my name. That was going to be my last big job.
"Then I got here. And here's my name on my really last project. . . ."
One that anyone coming through our front door will see as long as the house stands.

silly me. dumb me. am i the last to realize, your street is suenitos? or is it the name of your house? i musta missed that way back in the beginning. here i was thinkin it was just the name, the wonderful name, of your blog. and all along it's been the name of your lane???? boy do i love seein' that, any minute now i'm going to see couches being carried in like crumbs on the backs of the armies of ants.....
It's the name of the house. "Sueñitos" means "Little Dreams," which is fitting for a house this size.
Lots of Key West houses have names on plaques or signs near the door -- on our street alone, Sailor House, Conch Cottage, Jasmine House. Casa Loca, one of my faves and how I feel about our house sometimes, is just around the corner from Sueñitos.
