Blushing beauty

I came across this pendulous sweep of pink and its puzzles (What's the plant? Are those bracts or petals? Is it kin to a hydrangea? A poinsettia?) while taking some out-of-towners on a stroll through Truman Annex last weekend. It was one of the few bits of color, life, whimsy or delicacy in that whole Stepford Village environment.

My friend Lou always comes up with the best lines. This snippet from her note today: "A nice bit of Wendell Berry came to me: No knowledge rightly understood can deny us the mirth of flowers."

Wouldn't that garland make a great bikini bottom?
